Please Note - All communications regarding SAMSEF Scholarships should be directed to: SAMSOGFoundation@gmail.com

Scholarship applications for all annual scholarships will be accepted thru June 30th and will be awarded in July for the previous academic year.

SAMSEF maintains several scholarships designed to encourage and financially assist students seeking education in the field of land surveying. Recipients of our annual scholarships are selected each year by a group of land surveyors from an adjoining state land surveying society. All annual scholarships are awarded by July each year.

Below is a summary of all scholarships available through SAMSEF...

Ben W. Fortson Scholarship

$3,000 per year

SAMSEF manages the Ben W. Fortson Scholarship fund. This fund was established in 1980 by members of SAMSOG and is named in memory of Ben W. Fortson. Ben W. Fortson was a longtime and devoted Secretary of State and Surveyor General for the State of GA, as well as a strong advocate for the land surveying profession in the state of GA. This scholarship is devoted to benefit those students pursuing their bachelor's degree in land surveying or a directly related course of study. Through the years, this fund has benefited many land surveying students with financial assistance as they endeavored to further educate themselves in land surveying. One student per academic year is selected for this scholarship.

SAMSEF Regional Scholarships

$3,000 per year (Five Scholarships)

SAMSEF has established five regional scholarships to support degree seeking land surveying students throughout the state of GA. Preference will be given to the applicant's home region in the state when considering their application. The recipients of each of these scholarships must be a resident of GA, pursuing a career in land surveying, and pursuing a degree in land surveying or a related field of study at an accredited college acceptable to the trustees of SAMSEF. The degree must include sufficient hours to take the surveyor intern (SI) exam upon graduation. These scholarships will be made available to students at any level of higher education, including graduating high school students entering college as a freshman. Applicants must submit appropriate information supporting their worthiness for the scholarship with their application, including high school grade transcripts, college transcripts, related projects, essays, and other supporting information.

SAMSEF Technical Scholarships

$750 per semester (Three Scholarships per Semester)

SAMSEF established the SAMSEF TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP in 2015, in memory and/or honor of those dedicated surveyors in Georgia who have pursued a lifelong commitment to learning and serving the public in the highest of professional services in surveying and mapping. The SAMEF TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP was established to financially assist students pursuing education in the land surveying profession but are not enrolled in a formal associate or bachelor degree program related to the profession.  This scholarship fund provides three students per semester with $750.00 scholarships and is funded by our annual SAMSEF Equipment Raffle.  Students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships any time of the year.
