Hey everyone, I wanted to share a heads-up about a scam I ran into last week. A new client ordered a survey and paid a deposit with an ACH transfer, but then canceled a few days later and asked for the money back. There were a few red flags that made me suspicious, so I didn't return the money.

Moving forward, I'll be doing some additional verification for new clients to make sure they're legitimate. I hope this helps you avoid a similar situation.

Best,
Scott North

Thank you Scott for putting this in this forum.
I have had the same happen to me. I was paid a deposit for $2600 ACH through Quickbooks. Then they said the property had an easement on it, so they were cancelling and wanting a refund through Zelle or a check. Quickbooks does not offer refund through ACH, so that is the set up for the scam.
The money that was deposited was from a real bank account that they hacked into, so I did receive stolen money into my company account. I filed a local police report and reported it to the FBI cybercrimes division. They both said they wouldn't be able to do anything, but I have a copy of the reports in my records in case this ever does come back to me. I also contacted my bank and Quickbooks, but neither had an interest in helping either.
I put the money aside in case anyone ever does contact me about this I can get the money back to the rightful owner.

It seems like I receive 3-4 emails a day with this same set up. It will be an unusual name stating they are a general contractor, and will ask what areas we serve.
Everyone please be aware of these scam requests.

I've gotten these alot lately as well. It starts out like "Hello I'm so-and-so , a general contractor, what areas do you serve? They are easy to spot now, but I have gotten a ton of these lately.
