Until recently the city of Savannah sponsored guest presentations every month or two dealing with aspects of the city's history and culture. These were held in the City Hall, were coordinated by Luciana Spracher, the City Archivist, and were taped. One of the presentations, titled "Maps, Surveys, and Plans, Oh My!", is by Luciana and describes the city's survey and map heritage. The video can be accessed at

It contains useful information for surveyors who work in Savannah, as well as information that should be of interest to surveyors in general. The Savannah City Hall Archives has thousands of plats, maps, and fieldnotes of the city, made by the city's surveyors and engineers, many of which are not recorded in the courthouse, that go back to the 1790s.

Thanks, Farris. Very interesting video of Savannah’s history.

It also took me to a website regarding the Coastal Jazz Society and a reference to a man who was my mentor in Jazz, Claude Rhea, pianist.

Thanks, again.
Bill Duggan
