The SAMSOG Education Foundation, Inc. exists to provide financial and other types of support to land surveying students and land surveying education programs throughout the State of Georgia and to enhance and promote the profession of Land Surveying by educating students and the general public about the profession. 


Foundation News

April 2015 -  SAMSEF held its first annual fundraiser event - the 1st Annual SAMSEF Sporting Clays Tournament on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Ocmulgee River Gun Club in Macon GA.  The event was a great success and proved that many land surveyors throughout our state support the efforts of our foundation.   All proceeds after expenses went to benefit the foundation.

Jan 2015 - Champion Instruments donates new total station surveying instrument to the foundation for fundraising efforts.  The foundation plans to sell tickets for $20.00 each and hold a drawing at the 2015 Annual Summer Meeting for SAMSOG in Jekyll Island.

Oct 2014 - After years of meetings, paperwork, and determination, the SAMSOG Education Foundation finally gained status as a 501c3 charitable organization.   Those wishing to support education for future land surveyors and land surveying programs finally can make tax deductible donations!

Jan 2014 - The SAMSOG Education Foundation holds its inaugural meeting of the initial board of trustees.  Many issues were handled during this meeting, including hiring Ginger Jones as Executive Director, adopting by-laws, and electing officers.



The SAMSOG Education Foundation as created by The Surveying and Mapping Society of GA to provide a tax deductible mechanism for donations of money and other gifts to support the land surveying profession in GA.   The SAMSOG Education Foundation is an approved 501c3 foundation and is directly managed by a board of trustees that are also members of the Surveying and Mapping Society of GA.   Your contributions to the foundation are tax-deductible and will go directly to assist students and education programs related to land surveying in Georgia.

The Board of Trustees for The SAMSOG Education Foundation (SAMSEF) is comprised of five SAMSOG Members.  All five initial members were appointed by SAMSOG President Frank Gaddy in 2013, following the rules for appointment as outlined in the bylaws for the organization.  The current Board of Trustees for 2015-2016 are:

Foundation Support Opportunities

SAMSEF offers the following opportunities to those wishing to support the efforts of the foundation:

Point of Commencement Founding Benefactor (closed) $5,000.00 donation
The first 15 individuals or entities that donated $5,000.00 to the foundation are the founding benefactors of the foundation.  They receive permanent recognition on future printed material, publicity material, and the foundation website in consideration for their generous donation.  They also receive two spots at the annual fund-raising event (Sporting Clays Tournament) along with recognition on printed material for the event for two years.  All donors are listed at the bottom of this page.  This donation level is now closed.

Benchmark Supporter $1000.00 per year
All individuals or entities that commit to donating $1000.00 annually will be recognized on the foundation website as a "Benchmark Supporter" of the foundation.  A certificate recognizing the donation will be provided to the donor.  Two spots at the annual fund-raising event (Sporting Clays Tournament) will also be provided, along with recognition on printed material.

Monument Supporter $500.00 per year
All individuals or entities that commit to donating $500.00 annually will be recognized on the foundation website as a "Monument Supporter" of the foundation.  One spot at the annual fund-raising event (Sporting Clays Tournament) will also be provided.

Foundation Supporter $250.00 per year
All individuals or entities that commit to donating $250.00 annually will be recognized on the foundation website as a "Foundation Supporter" of the foundation. 

The foundation also welcomes one-time contributions of any amount and accepts non-financial donations such as land, vehicles, or other items of value.  

Sustaining Supporter $750.00 per year
Any company or corporation providing equipment, supplies, or other services to the land surveying community that commits to donating $750.00 per year will be recognized as a "Sustaining Supporter" of the foundation.  A certificate, along with recognition and logo placement will be provided on the foundation website, printed material, and publicity material.  



Foundation Scholarships and Programs

Ben W. Fortson Scholarship Fund

SAMSEF manages the Ben W. Fortson Scholarship fund.  This fund was established in 1980 by SAMSOG and is named in memory of Ben W. Fortson.  Ben W. Fortson was a longtime and devoted Secretary of State and Surveyor General for the State of GA.  This scholarship is primarily devoted to benefit those students pursuing their degree in land surveying.

Through the years, this fund has benefited many students with financial assistance as they endeavored to further educate themselves in land surveying.

SAMSEF Technical Scholarship Fund


The Surveying and Mapping Society Educational Foundation (SAMSEF) established the SAMSEF TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP in 2015, in memory and/or honor of those dedicated surveyors in Georgia who have pursued a lifelong commitment to learning and serving the public in the highest of professional services in surveying and mapping.


The SAMEF TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP was established to financially assist students pursuing education in the land surveying profession but are not enrolled in a formal associate or bachelor degree program related to the profession.
