Dear SAMSOG Member:

As President of SAMSOG,  I have formed a special committee known as the "Four Year Degree Requirement Study Committee" to prepare proposed legislation to begin the requirement of a 4 year degree for licensure in the State of GA.  This committee, chaired by Trent Turk, chairman of our Education Committee, has been directed by me to immediately meet and prepare a draft document for presentation to our Board of Directors at our next General Membership meeting on January 23, 2003.  If this proposed legislation is supported by our Board of Directors, we will proceed with introduction of a bill containing our proposed legislation.  We have already met with representatives of the American Council of Engineering Companies of GA (ACEC) regarding this issue. They have expressed a desire to introduce similar legislation for engineers, and would like to pursue this legislation jointly with us.  A panel consisting of two SAMSOG members (from our study committee), two ACEC members, two State Board members, and the Executive Director of each organization has been formed and will jointly introduce this legislation.  This panel is scheduled to meet in early February.

The political landscape changed dramatically during our last election, and the leaders of our organization believe that now is a favorable time to introduce this proposed legislation.

The members of the special committee are:

Trent Turk, Chairman
Andy Bruner
Bobby Shupe
Mark Chastain
Greg Johnson
Robert Armstrong
Tommie Donaldson
Tate Jones
Josh Lewis

Please make plans now to attend our next General Membership Meeting at SPSU on January 23, and voice your opinions on this very important matter!

Andy Bruner, President
SAMSOG
