Important Announcement: Surveying Education at Middle Georgia State College, Updated March 19, 2015. Note, if you have applied and get a letter from MGSC’s Admissions Department telling you that students are no longer being accepted, please contact me and I will help you get admitted. See Contact information given below!

RE: Deactivation of Online Surveying Programs at Middle Georgia State College (Degree: Associate of Science Degree in Surveying and Certificate: Certificate of Surveying)

Applies to: Current Students, Former Students and Prospective Students in Surveying at Middle Georgia State College (MGSC)

Information:

Current Student Base: Currently, MGSC has 25+ active students in the two existing programs.

Action: The MGSC faculty Senate based on the recommendation of the MGSC Academic Affairs committee voted on December 5, 2014 to deactivate the surveying programs at MGSC. The official reason given for the deactivation was low enrollment.

History: Since 1994, 1058+ students have taken courses in surveying at MGSC, 300+ students have completed all courses at MGSC required for licensure, 127+ students have become Registered Land Surveyors and 114+ students have received the LSIT certification. (Final ICAPP Report: 2008)

Important Deadlines:

Current Students: Current students will receive a program teach-out map during this semester, Spring 2015. These students will need to complete their teach-out program by the Summer Semester of 2017.

Former Students wishing to complete programs: These former students will need to re-apply as soon as possible and become an active registered student by Summer 2015 (May 14, 2015) and complete their program by Summer Semester 2017.

Prospective Students: Prospective students must apply as soon as possible and be an active registered student by Summer 2015 (May 14, 2015) and complete their program by Summer Semester 2017.

Ending Program: No new students will be accepted into the program beginning with the Fall 2015 Semester and the last semester of any surveying course offering at MGSC will be Summer 2017.

Roger,
What options within the state will surveying students have after your program goes away?

What are the current options available for meeting the state's minimum education requirements? At one time Southern Poly had a certificate program and there was at least one correspondence program that met state requirements.
